STUCCO

What is stucco?

Stucco is a type of siding that is cement-based and provides a seamless finish on a wall and has many different textures and colours that can be achieved. There are two basic types of stucco systems and these are commonly known as a three-coat stucco system and a one-coat stucco system (a.k.a. 2 coat system).

PARGING

What is parging?

Parging is a technique used by masons to cover the surface of a masonry wall. It’s similar to stucco, utilizing a specialized mortar to cover exterior and interior masonry block and stone walls. A fresh coat of parging works to protect and shield your home’s foundation from all of nature’s elements. Sure, you could leave your walls bare, but it won’t look as nice and won’t help to protect your home from the rain and snow that can cause damage and deterioration. And conveniently you can apply parging to any surface, but you will find it most commonly on inside of basement walls and exterior above-ground basement walls.

EIFS SYSTEM AND ACRYLIC STUCCO

EIFS is an acronym that stands for Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems. It is a non-load bearing, composite cladding system that consists of a liquid applied weather resistant barrier (LA-WRB) (air and/or vapour barrier); an insulation board attached either adhesively, mechanically, or both, to the substrate; an integrally reinforced base coat; and a textured protective finish coat.

STOP WOODPECKERS DAMAGE EIFS

How to protect your home from Woodpecker damage ?

Woodpeckers can wreak havoc on building enclosures. Found across the globe, woodpeckers traditionally peck holes into trees to find food, make nests, and communicate. However, woodpeckers and other pecking birds, such as flickers, can mistake Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS) for wood and cause building damage. Woodpeckers are very territorial and defend their domain by tapping on materials that produce the “right sound.” EIFS is one of those materials. Not only is damaged EIFS an eyesore, but it can also make a building vulnerable to water intrusion, mould, and/or pest infestation. Most damage occurs during the breeding season, March through May when the birds are at their most territorial.
